Digitized Quilting Class

I noticed a class on Quilt University called "Digitized Quilting".  This class uses the embroidery module to quilt.  I wasn't sure if I would be up for taking a class right now, but this class has my interest.  Since Quilt University is going away at the end of the year, I better take this class now.  It opened up on Friday night, and I just signed up for it on Sunday.  Good thing as the registration closed at midnight.  I haven't tried quilting with my embroidery machine, but have wanted to try this.  Anyone else given this a try?

Quilt done by embroidery in this class.

Here is the description of this class:
Did you ever think that you would be able to sit at a home embroidery sewing machine and quilt?  With photos and step by step instructions, Joanne will show you how to use your embroidery module to quilt.  Students will construct a 30" x 30" simple one block quilt with wide borders to accommodate the feather border quilting designs.  This method is especially nice for hands that no longer enjoy moving the quilt under the machine manually.  Embroidery designs included with this class are: a large triangle, small double triangle, center design and multihooped feather corner border design.  These designs were digitized using software that automatically sequences the designs so there are no jump stitches.  Skill level: Intermediate to Advanced.  Students should have experience with rotary cutting and piecing a simple quilt and also be comfortable using their embroidery module.  This is not a beginner class.  Four Lessons.

Personal Note:
I haven't spent much time in my sewing room this summer.  Just not up for it, I guess.  I'm on to the next phase of my treatment now, and I'm in for radiation therapy this week.  I'm hoping I can at least read the first lesson instructions while at the doctor's office.  After the radiation therapy is done, I'll be in isolation for several days.  Lots of time for reading then.  I'll be ready to get my quilt on when all my therapy is done.  Positive thoughts!

Happy Stitching!!

  2. Sylvia,
I know that there are plenty of embroidery designs that are meant for quilting (Anita Goodesign has several), but I have never tried it.
I just signed up for my first Quilt University Class tonight, and noticed the banner that says QU is closing at the end of the year. Typical for me, I am always late to the party!
I hope that your radiation therapy goes by quickly for you.

  3. Interesting. I'm doing good just walking into my sewing room for the past 6 months.
