My FunDay Cross-stitch UFO

My Funday Monday involved an 11-hour bus ride home from Savannah, GA yesterday.  My Funday friend & scout co-leader, Kathleen, and I had accompanied our troop to visit the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts of America.  The girls had been saving up their monies from selling cookies to pay for this trip.  Since 2012 is the 100-year anniversary of the Girl Scout organization, this was the perfect time to go.  If you are interested, you can read a write-up about our trip on our troop's blog here.

I didn't spend the entire bus ride working on this cross-stitch, but I did invest several good hours between the ride there and back working on this.  The thing about cross-stitch for me is that I'm not the fastest, so it still doesn't look like much progress, even after a few hours of work.

When I saw this cross-stitch kit, I really liked it.  I knew that it would be a UFO forever and hopefully be finished one day.  I started working on the brown while at the beach last summer.  It's been sitting and waiting, and this weekend I worked on the cream and other colors.  So here it is so far...
Can you tell what this is supposed to be?

This is what it wants to be when it grows up:

Needlework Shoppe - #023-0590 by Janlynn
Finished size 14" x 11"

This kit is called Needlework Shoppe and is kit #023-0590 by Janlynn.com.  Of course, the name of this shoppe on my finished cross-stitch will be "Sylvia's Stitches"!

Kathleen commented to me that she has never seen a needle-work scroll-frame like the one I am using.  Since this is a large finished cross-stitch, I have my fabric rolled smoothly on 18" rods.  I have had this frame set for a long long time.  In fact, the cross-stitch that I took out of the frame in order to put this Needlework Shoppe in, was a wedding UFO that I had started and never finished.  And we've been married over 15 years now.  I like using this scroll frame since it avoids hoop-burn and keeps my fabric straight and taught.

I found the instructions for my frame set.  It is called "E-Z Stitch" needlework frame manufactured by Tomorrow's Treasures in Woodinville, WA.  When I google the company and product now, it looks like the company has become American Dream Products.  They manufacture and sell a variety of needlework frames and notions.

My needlework frame set which I really like!

The set I is have is called the Starter Set Oak.  It comes with several bars and rods to make a variety of frames for 6", 12" and 18".  My frame set is older and is called the Webbing version, where I baste my fabric to the scroll rods initially.  They now offer a No Basting System, which I believe involves Velcro.  I don't know how the no-basting system works, but my original webbing version has been fine to work with.  You can find some of these frames online for less charge than retail price. This frame would make a great Christmas gift for someone.  :-)

Happy Stitching!!

  1. You've completed a lot so far. It made me smile when you said you hadn't finished your wedding sampler. It took me ten years to complete the last supper for my mother in law in cross stitch. I was so glad when it was finished, it was black aida and tiny holes. I hope you get to show us the finished item.

    1. This one is going to take a loooong time to complete. My wedding UFO is more than half-way done. I should have just finished it, but this one was calling my name to do it first. :-)
      Have a great week!

  3. LOL you don't know slow. I bought this cute cross stitch with a baby in a crib and the saying "just when you thought you were done being a mom you become a grandmother" Well that was 25 years ago and guess what it's still not done.
I love the one you're working. It's gonna be really pretty when you finish.

  4. I know where you come from friend. I have been finding all kinds of long ago started treasures that I have become determined to finish. I just got a scroll frame a few months ago, then last month ordered a floor and lap frame. LOVE IT. I have been posting about my current project which I actually started when youngest daughter was born. She is 16 now. I have been recording my progress. I am totally hooked, with a love hate relationship, on cross stitch. Love the look, love doing it, hate how long it takes me to work the stitches. KEEP on going, you are doing great.

    1. Thank you so much for the encouragement! I'm glad others can understand that it's a bit disappointing when it is so slow going. But, it is so great when it is done! Thanks for following along too.
